RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Exemplifies inclusive, equity-minded, and collaborative leadership; demonstrates operational excellence; fosters data-informed planning and accountability; advances our mission as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and regionally engaged campus; and enhances our campus culture.
Provides leadership for faculty and staff within Arts & Sciences to support excellence in teaching, research, creative activities and service; meets regularly with program chairs and convenes faculty meetings as necessary; makes faculty appointment, retention, tenure and promotion recommendations; develops and oversees budget allocations linked to academic planning; provides oversight and advocacy for all programs in Arts and Sciences; oversight of assessment and program review processes; works with program chairs to oversee teaching assignments and the scheduling of classes; oversight of work load; recommends the appointment of program chairs to the Provost; supervises the employment and retention of temporary faculty and support staff; represents the faculty and the University to the community at large and involves the community in advisory capacities; works with University Advancement to build successful fundraising initiatives related to academic programs in Art and Sciences; represents CI on CSU system-wide groups, in professional organizations and in the community; oversees student academic progress within Arts and Sciences; and promotes an academic culture that supports work/life balance, cooperation, and collegiality.
The Dean will actively support CSUCI’s commitment to inclusive excellence by embedding equity-minded practices across all areas of the School’s work. They will participate annually in professional and/or leadership development opportunities that strengthen their ability to promote educational equity, access, and student success—particularly for historically underserved and marginalized communities—at CSUCI and in the broader educational landscape.
Performs additional related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: A terminal degree in an appropriate field represented in the unit. A record of excellent teaching scholarship and service, and eligibility for appointment at the rank of full professor. Minimum 3–5 years of academic leadership experience, including higher education management and involvement in faculty RTP (Retention, Tenure, Promotion) processes.
Experience: Experience managing human resources related responsibilities and budgets, with a collaborative and hands-on approach to fiscal oversight; Familiarity with state, regional, and national accreditation processes; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, administrators, and external partners; Understanding of and/or background aligned with CSUCI’s student demographics and regional context. Demonstrated flexibility and ability to manage organizational growth and change; demonstrated commitment to innovation; demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, demonstrated commitment to facilitating the pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, scholarly activities; demonstrated commitment to the development and support of interdisciplinary teaching & research; demonstrated commitment to shared governance; experience in and a demonstrated commitment to fostering a culturally diverse academic community; commitment to a student-focused learning environment, and knowledge of and experience with the development and assessment of learning outcomes.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in leading organizational change, including change management and operational efficiency; Experience in a new or growing institution and/or experience in planning for and developing new academic programs; a successful record of developing and sustaining community partnerships; experience working with Advancement in fundraising efforts; experience working with grants; effective relationship building with other university divisions to improve the academic endeavor, and experience in a collective bargaining environment. Demonstrated ability to work across the CSU system and contribute to broader state-level educational initiatives; Work experience in a medium or large public university setting preferred.

Hiring Range: $18,000 - $19,000 per month
