The Department of EOP at California State University, Sacramento seeks a part-time ISA to assist with facilitating and tutoring.
Timeline:

Essential Functions: The position requires the ability to communicate effectively, including speaking to large groups, being willing to share innovative ideas and being patient while others share theirs, be excited to work as part of a team and independently as lessons require. Must be able to function with accuracy during peak times and must be able to adapt to a variety of situations, including changing lesson plans. Must be friendly yet professional in working closely with students of diverse backgrounds, able to relate to EOP students and serve as a mentor or guide in introducing them to Sac State and listen to students' needs and respond to students appropriately. The position requires the individual to set goals for self-development throughout the six-week program.
Connection with Students
- Make an effort to interact in person with each of your students daily
- Get to know each student well enough to be able to recognize behavior that is out of character and so that they feel comfortable approaching you with questions or problems
- Maintain your availability during busy periods of the program
Confidentiality
Understand the importance and limits of confidentiality. If an issue needs to be addressed at a higher level, it will be passed on only to the proper individuals.
Understand and commit to not sharing any information regarding students or community issues with individuals outside of the Leadership Facilitator team
Knowledge of Procedures, Resources, and Policies
- Know what situations require referral and to whom to refer as outlined in training (i.e., EOP counseling/advising, Tutoring program).
- Know the role of the ALS 79 Coordinator and the SB Coordinator and how to contact them.
- Know about Sac State and the opportunities for involvement available
Role Model Behavior
- Abide by program rules and regulations, and the policies of Sacramento State
- Refrain from close friendships and romantic/sexual relationships with students in the SBA program
- Be proactive in addressing remarks, behavior, and "jokes" that are offensive or degrading to any individual.
- Maintain professionalism online and be aware of publicly posted information (Facebook, personal blogs, etc.)
Time Requirements
On average, 10-12 hours per week for the six-week program are required to fulfill Peer Leader responsibilities. Although each week will vary, the hours will be designated as follows:
- SB Instructor and Staff Orientation: Wednesday, June 11: 2 hours
- SB Training June 10 to June 12 from 9 am – 12 pm: 12 hours
- ALS 79 Debrief/Group Facilitation June 27 through August 1, 2024 (Monday through Thursday) from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm: 40 hours
- Administrative: 1hr of checking emails per day 20 hours
- SB Virtual Crossing July 31, 2025, from TBA: 2 hours
- 76 hours total
Training and Development
Attend a total of 12 hours of Leadership Training from Monday (6/10) through Wednesday (6/13)
Specific Duties:
- Facilitate a small group as a group facilitator for the ALS 79A Leadership course during the summer
- Serve as a role model and provide referrals for Summer Bridge students as needed
- Facilitate or assist in planning extensive group activities
Eligibility Requirements:
Undergraduate Students
Unit Load: 6 min – 15 max per semester
GPA Minimum: 2.50 (overall), newly admitted students: 2.50 GPA
Graduate Students
Unit Load: 4 min – 12 max per semester
GPA Minimum: 3.00 (overall), newly admitted students: 2.75 GPA
Minimum qualifications:
The applicant must be a currently enrolled Sacramento State student in good academic standing with at least one year of experience working directly with college students; must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills and experience working with multi-ethnic and multi-cultural students; basic knowledge of academic and personal counseling and advising; proven leadership ability; ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Must have general knowledge of campus resources, faculty, services, and academic opportunities and the ability to articulate and disseminate detailed information.

Leadership is a process open to everyone that facilitates change. Therefore, it is more than a position in which one person is hired or elected.
With this guiding philosophy, the 2025 EOP Summer Bridge ALS 79A course will introduce new Sac State students to the opportunities to develop their leadership abilities to assist them in and out of the classroom. As an ALS 79A Facilitator, you can guide these new students while engaging in large-group discussions and small-group interactions.
SBA will be six weeks long, and Facilitators will be expected to complete 8-hours of training before the start of the session, arrive promptly for each day's session, and stay until the session is complete. Additionally, Facilitators may be expected to design, implement, and assess one-hour lunchtime workshops on a leadership topic to be discussed with the ALS 79A coordinator.
Peer Leaders' main objectives include helping the SB students:
- Grow academically and socially with other SB students in the program
- Develop relationships and connect with SB students, faculty, and staff in their program
- Enhance in-class learning by facilitating Leadership activities
- Participate in campus-wide activities with people from a variety of backgrounds and programs
- Encourage students in your Leadership group to participate in campus leadership opportunities
