The Department of the Peer & Academic Resource Center (PARC) at California State University, Sacramento seeks a part-time ISA to assist with course-based supplemental instruction.

Timeline:

Position Description

  • Plan and teach two 50-minute or 60-minute SI classes via Zoom or in-person each week based on the Kansas City SI model.
  • Attend all class lectures of the targeted academic course via Zoom or in-person.
  • Consult weekly with the faculty instructor of the GE course.
  • Recruit students from the GE course to enroll in SI.
  • Maintain attendance log and contact SI students if they are absent from SI and/or GE class.
  • Maintain student performance data and advise students on their course progress through informal check-ins and conferences. 
  • Submit lesson plans weekly; maintain lesson plans and instructional materials online.
  • Conduct at least two peer-observations of another SI Leader throughout the semester.
  • Conduct Mid Semester and End of Semester Student Evaluations
  • Promote office hours regularly in both the GE and SI course.
  • Meet with faculty coordinators at the beginning of the semester to review syllabus and lesson planning ideas via Zoom or in-person.
  • New SI Leaders are to participate in the weekly training course that meets once a week in addition to the Friday meetings.
  • Communicate with SI Leaders of same or similar disciplines via Zoom or in-person.
  • Read the Handbook of SI materials throughout the semester.
  • Learn and understand the Kansas City Strategy Cards provided by the program.
  • Attend the mandatory pre-semester meetings, mandatory weekly SI professional development trainings, and any subsequent training workshops. All of these will be held either online or in-person.
  • Assist non-SI students during office hours who are dropping in for the same or similar GE course.
  • Communicate and collaborate with front desk administrative staff and student assistants on a regular basis.
  • Being familiar with the general structure of programs in PARC and promoting PARC events.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

Undergraduate Students

     Unit Load: 6 min – 15 max per semester

     GPA Minimum: 2.50 (overall), newly admitted students: 2.50 GPA

Graduate Students

     Unit Load: 4 min – 12 max per semester

     GPA Minimum: 3.00 (overall), newly admitted students: 2.75 GPA

Minimum qualifications:

  • Ability to attend all required trainings/meetings. For Fall 2025, the weekly professional development trainings will be held on Fridays at 11:00am. The pre-semester training dates are to be determined.
  • Must be able to return emails in a timely manner.
  • Must submit timesheet and all other payroll items in a timely manner.
  • Must be open to learning culturally responsive strategies and maintain a positive attitude. New SI leaders have to complete a training course their first semester as an SI Leader.
  • Must maintain confidentiality among peers.
  • Must be able to carry out responsibilities in an online platform and have a basic knowledge of Zoom.
  • Must have passed the course that you would like to be an SI Leader for.
