The Department of Family & Consumer Sciences at California State University, Sacramento seeks a part-time ISA to assist with FASH 30: Fashion & Human Environment, FASH 32: Apparel Construction, and FSHD 50: The Family & Social Issues.

Position Description

This position will provide in-class support to our FASH 32 – Apparel Construction 1 course by assisting students with sewing, cutting fabric, machine use/maintenance, etc. The ideal candidate will have completed the FASH 32 course with a grade of C- or better and be able to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a professional and supportive attitude, as well as keeping confidentiality. In addition, this position will provide support for our FASH 30 – Fashion & Human Environment and FSHD 50 – The Family & Social Issues courses by assisting the instructor with facilitating group discussions, posting materials, managing Canvas, entering grades, and monitoring discussion boards.

The candidate must have accepted Federal Work Study funds and be available to attend FASH 32 (T/Th 1:30 - 4:20 pm) and FSHD 50 (T/Th 4:30 - 5:45 pm) courses.

FASH 32 

  • Assist instructor during lab sessions
  • Assist with troubleshooting sewing machines and other lab equipment
  • Answer student questions as directed by instructor
  • Support student during lab activities
  • Other duties as assigned by instructor

FASH 30 & FSHD 50

  • Assist instructor with facilitating group projects and discussions
  • Manage Canvas as directed by instructor
  • Enter grades as directed by the instructor
  • Monitor discussion boards in Canvas
  • Other duties as assigned by instructors

 

Eligibility Requirements:

Undergraduate Students

     Unit Load: 6 min – 15 max per semester

     GPA Minimum: 2.50 (overall), newly admitted students: 2.50 GPA

Graduate Students

     Unit Load: 4 min – 12 max per semester

     GPA Minimum: 3.00 (overall), newly admitted students: 2.75 GPA

Minimum qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled as a student at California State University, Sacramento, and have accepted Federal Work Study funding.
  • Strong sewing experience, including, but not limited to, threading sewing machines, assembling bobbins, troubleshooting sewing machines, garment construction, and fabric cutting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also demonstrating initiative and the capacity to work independently.
  • Knowledge of Canvas

Preferred qualifications (if applicable):

  • Have taken FASH 32 (or comparable) and earned a letter grade of B or higher.
