The Caltrans Director’s Office of Equity & Tribal Affairs seeks a part-time MPPA student to
support the implementation of the People and Community First Action Plan (PC1AP).

Position Description:
Working under the direction of the Equity Strategy Manager, the Equity Strategy Research
Fellow will support the implementation of the PC1AP. This role will contribute to research,
analysis, and coordination efforts that advance equity-focused initiatives across Caltrans.
The Fellow will assist with PC1AP progress reporting by synthesizing data and developing clear
summaries on progress, challenges, and key insights. The Fellow will also support internal
collaboration efforts, assisting with convening meetings and developing materials that support
knowledge-sharing across Caltrans districts and divisions. Additionally, the Fellow will research
and review internal processes, identifying and recommending areas for improvement to advance
equity.
Responsibilities include:
• Assisting with analysis of PC1AP progress reporting data to identify trends and insights
• Supporting development of reports, summaries, and briefing materials
• Assisting with surveys, interviews and other information gathering efforts as needed
• Supporting coordination efforts by preparing materials and participating in meetings to
understand and document successes, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
• Conducting research to support equity-focused initiatives
• Reviewing and editing documents for clarity and consistency
• Compiling resources, tools, and documenting promising practices to support
implementation of equity actions
Eligibility & Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants must be graduate students in good standing, pursuing a Master of Public Policy &
Administration.

• Ability to synthesize information clearly and concisely
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and take initiative
• Interest in equity, public policy, or organizational change
