POSITION TITLE

The Center for Teaching and Learning & the University Reading and Writing Center at Sacramento State seek part-time ISAs to provide support to students using Adobe Express for multimodal composition assignments in the Writing Center and in courses participating in the CSU + Adobe for All Faculty Learning Community. ISAs will work with students in one-on-one and/or group settings to support multimodal writing projects using Adobe Express.

The Multimodal Composition Student Tutor is a trained peer tutor within the University Reading and Writing Center who provides academic support for students in participating courses. Student tutors will offer both drop-in assistance, and individual appointment-based consultations to help students effectively use Adobe Express while strengthening their writing, rhetorical, and communication skills. Through specialized training, tutors learn to guide students in integrating digital tools into the composing process without losing focus on course learning objectives. This position plays an important role in promoting equitable access to technology-enhanced learning by supporting all students, particularly first-generation students and multilingual writers, in developing confidence and success with multimodal communication. 

Student tutors will complete specialized training through the University Reading and Writing Center, including instruction in Adobe Express and multimodal composition tutoring practices. Tutors will assist students with Adobe Express projects through both scheduled appointments and drop-in consultations. They will help students navigate the technical features of Adobe Express while emphasizing effective rhetorical strategies, writing, and composition principles. Tutors will also maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and uphold all University Reading and Writing Center policies and professional standards. 

 

Eligibility Requirements:

Undergraduate Students

     Unit Load: 6 min – 15 max per semester

     GPA Minimum: 2.50 (overall), newly admitted students: 2.50 GPA

Graduate Students

     Unit Load: 4 min – 12 max per semester

     GPA Minimum: 3.00 (overall), newly admitted students: 2.75 GPA

Minimum qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing.
  • Eligible for student employment under university policies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest in writing, multimodal composition, and supporting student learning.
  • Willingness to complete specialized training in Writing Center tutoring practices and Adobe Express.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and Writing Center staff.
  • Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency and willingness to learn new digital technologies.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Ability to facilitate small discussions, support multimodal writing workshops, clarify assignment expectations, guide students in the use of Adobe Express, and foster understanding of how design choices, mode, and audience shape effective multimodal communication.

Preferred qualifications (if applicable):

  • Successful completion or concurrent enrollment in ENGL 195A/410A, or equivalent tutoring experience and/or a recommendation letter that speaks to tutoring experience.
  • Availability to attend Adobe Express training and regular staff meetings during the semester.
  • Interest in design-integrated or technology-supported writing instruction.
